Ellen Ryan is a Professor and the Head of Special Collections and Archives at Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV's Pocatello campus. She earned a MLIS in Archival Studies from San Jose State University in 2012, an MA in History (with a concentration in historic preservation) from Southeast Missouri State University in 2006, and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of New Mexico in 1995; additionally, she has a Post-graduate Certificate in Genealogical, Paleographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde-Glasgow. Prior to becoming an archivist, Ellen worked as an architectural historian in the Adirondack Park of New York State where she grew up; lived and worked in New York City for 12 years (the majority of which was working at an art museum, and the first few years were spent waiting tables and bartending, and all of it was spent as a starving artist); has worked with numerous historical societies and museums in various parts of the country either serving on their boards, volunteering, or serving as a consultant; and, has spent all of her career advocating for the preservation of the built environment, art, and culture.
