New Grade Check-In Process for Student Athletes - Faculty Update from the Faculty Athletic Representative
August 24, 2026
Dear Faculty,
Thank you for everything you do to support ISU's student athletes. We have over 300 student athletes and every team averages over a 3.1 GPA. They are committed to their sport and to their academics. There are three things to be aware of if you have student athletes in class this semester.
New process for grade checks: Around midterms you will receive an email asking for grade updates. The email will use a link through an ISU-approved platform called Teamworks. Once you click on the link, in order to ensure FERPA, you will do a quick two factor authorization so the link is private for grade information. This new way will reduce the time it takes to fill out paper forms or respond to numerous emails. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can also contact Pepper Kaneko, the Associate Director for Athlete Academic Services (pepperkaneko@isu.edu).
Full Travel Schedule: You will receive a full travel schedule before their season identifying when students will travel and miss class. They are responsible for working with you to make up work.
Missed Class Reminders: You will receive additional reminders closer to a specific date a student athlete will miss. Athletes are excused from class and cannot be penalized for missing due to athletics, but they are expected to communicate and work with you. Please see ISUPP 5040 for additional clarity. Faculty have the right to have assignments turned in before they leave. Proctoring is always available from non-athletics related staff.
Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help. Have a great semester and go Bengals!
