The CMP Student Experience

From their very first day, students in Communication, Media, and Persuasion gain hands-on experience and skill with photography, design, argumentation, video production, debate, advertising, public relations, and more. Below is a small sample of the kinds of groups, projects, and coursework available to CMP students.

Student Organizations

The James M. and Sharron E. Rupp Debate Society

is comprised of students from Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV who compete in various types of intercollegiate debate and speech competitions.

AdFed

The American Advertising Federation is a highly active student organization at ISU. They hold regular meetings and events throughout the year to fund-raise and network, and they compete every spring in the .

Sports Video Crew

is responsible for the production and broadcasting of many Bengal home games and events.

The Bengal

Although not an official CMP student organization, , The Independent Voice of ISU, is a place where many of our Journalism, Photography, and Corporate Communication majors gain valuable working experience.

KISU-FM

provides not only the best of traditional public radio programming, but it also produces between 20-to-30 hours of local radio programming every week covering news, public affairs, and a wide range of eclectic musical genres. KISU also broadcasts live ISU women's soccer, volleyball, and basketball events throughout the school year.

Student Projects

CMP 3339 - Web Design

Web Design students produce two major projects over the course of the semester. Each student is required to create a personal portfolio website, as well as participate in a group project focused on building a website for an external client.

CMP 3352 - Photo Communication

This survey course is typically the first photo class taken after introductory photography. CMP 3352 provides students opportunities to explore visual genres of portraiture, landscape, documentary, and studio. , students are taken on location for practical field experience.

CMP 4437 - Illustration and Brand Identity

This course introduces business strategies and design techniques associated with brand development. Students create posters for the . These posters are then presented to the Simplot Games Board of Directors, and a winning poster is chosen. The winning student is awarded a $500 check, and a donation is made to the department.
