Faculty & Staff Workplace Training
Building Learning That Lasts
The Faculty & Staff Workplace Training Center connects people, expertise, and learning resources across Â鶹´«Ã½AV to help employees learn, grow, and succeed.
A collaborative partnership between Human Resources and the Innovation Hub, the Center serves as a central coordination point for workplace learning across ISU. We work alongside departments, functional leaders, subject matter experts, project teams, and other campus partners to support employee onboarding, professional development, process and technology adoption, organizational change, leadership development, and continuous learning.
Our goal is not to centralize all training work or take it away from the people already doing it well. We are working to connect and highlight the training, resources, and expertise that already exist across campus so they are easier to find, can be shared more broadly, and can benefit employees across the University.
When new learning is needed, we help campus partners understand the need, connect with existing expertise and resources, and design, develop, evaluate, and sustain effective learning solutions.
Our Approach
Connect & Share
Great training and learning already happen across Â鶹´«Ã½AV.
We are working to identify, connect, and highlight the learning opportunities, resources, and expertise that already exist across campus. By increasing visibility and connection, we can help employees find useful resources, help departments share effective work more broadly, reduce unnecessary duplication, and create new opportunities for collaboration.
Start With the Need
A workplace challenge is not automatically a training problem.
Before developing something new, we work with campus partners to understand the problem, desired outcome, audience, existing resources, and barriers to success.
Sometimes the answer is training. Sometimes an existing resource, job aid, clearer process, technology solution, communication, or clearer expectations may better meet the need.
When another type of support is more appropriate, we can help connect you with the right Innovation Hub or campus partner.
Build Together
The people closest to the work bring essential knowledge and experience.
We work alongside departments, subject matter experts, and campus partners to combine their expertise with learning design and development support. Together, we can turn institutional knowledge into practical learning experiences and resources that are useful, accessible, and relevant to employees.
Our role is to support and strengthen the expertise that already exists across ISU—not replace it.
Sustain & Improve
Training shouldn't become outdated the moment it is delivered.
We help campus partners think beyond the initial launch by considering how learning resources will stay accurate, useful, and accessible as processes, technologies, policies, and organizational needs change.
That can include establishing clear ownership, identifying reliable source information, planning regular reviews and updates, evaluating effectiveness, and capturing knowledge so it can be maintained and transferred over time.
Learning Needs Assessment
Not sure what kind of training you need—or whether training is the answer?
We can help explore the current situation, desired outcomes, audience, existing resources, and barriers to success before determining the best approach.
Learning Design & Development
We can work with campus experts to develop effective learning experiences and resources.
Support may include learning objectives and training outlines, self-paced and LMS learning, facilitator and participant guides, job aids and quick-reference materials, videos and multimedia resources, knowledge articles, assessments, and other supporting resources.
Facilitation & Learning Experiences
Not every learning need calls for the same approach.
We can help design and support workshops, facilitated discussions, onboarding programs, technology and process training, leadership development, coaching and mentoring, and other learning experiences appropriate to the audience and objective.
Knowledge Transfer & Retention
Important institutional knowledge shouldn't disappear when someone changes roles.
We can help departments capture, organize, and transfer knowledge in ways that make it easier to maintain and share—supporting organizational continuity and reducing dependency on individual employees.
Knowledge preservation, reduced dependency on individual employees, and improved organizational continuity are explicit outcomes of the Center's operating model.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Learning should make a difference—not simply be completed.
Depending on the initiative, we can help evaluate participation, learner feedback, knowledge development, adoption and utilization, operational outcomes, and other measures to understand what is working and where learning can improve.
Learning Resource Stewardship
Effective learning resources need a plan for staying current.
For Center supported learning resources, we help coordinate review cycles, version control, maintenance, publication, evaluation, and other sustainment activities so resources remain useful as institutional needs change.
You Don't Need to Start Over
Existing training may already meet the need—or it may simply need to be easier to find, updated, reorganized, or shared more broadly.
If your department already has training materials, courses, job aids, videos, knowledge articles, onboarding resources, or other learning tools, we can help review what exists before recommending development of something new.
We also want to know about the great training already happening across ISU. By connecting and highlighting existing learning opportunities and campus expertise, we can help more employees benefit from resources that departments and individuals have already created.
Sometimes the best training solution is connecting people with a resource or expert that already exists.
This isn't just messaging; reviewing existing resources is actually part of the Center's formal discovery process.

- Not sure what kind of support you need
The Center's model intentionally allows learning needs to originate from departments, HR, leadership, projects, technology implementations, process improvement, organizational development, employee feedback, compliance needs, and other institutional priorities.
We start by learning how the work happens at ISU—understanding the people, processes, systems, language, and expectations that shape how employees do their jobs. From there, we work with campus experts to build learning that reflects the ISU way of doing the work, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution.
