AmeriCorps Volunteers
The Gem State Public Health AmeriCorps Volunteers serve with local non-profit organizations and health district offices. These Volunteers provide direct service including but not limited to recruiting and managing volunteers, working directly with community members to help make a change, or doing work involved in making a direct change. Volunteers may conduct needs assessments regarding collaborations and partnerships, recruit potential partners, coordinate meetings, and manage volunteers. They are also able to provide outreach, train, teach, and tutor community Volunteers, as well as counsel, and recruit volunteers. Gem State Volunteers can also provide case management services, prepare client paperwork, prepare training sessions or classes, and help distribute food/ clothing. AmeriCorps Positions, Benefits, and Education Awards:
Volunteers under this program commit to either a 900 hour or 450 hour contract lasting 10 or 11 months*. These hours come from time spent at the Volunteer's Host Site, training provided by the Host Site and the program. The contract offers a monthly stipend**, an education award (scholarship), and benefits including student loan forbearance, student loan interest forgiveness, and access to counseling, life coaching, personal assistants, legal and financial consultation and so much more for the Volunteer and those in the Volunteer's household via the Member Assistance Program (MAP).
*Length of contracts are dependent on the needs of the Host Site and specific member situations but may not exceed 12 months.
